XYLO.
Twin brothers, Jeremiah and Raja Wolstenholme have designed and created their own watch designs, all crafted from sustainable woods.
They approached us to help them create both an inspiring name and high-end brand identity to take their passion project to market.
Working together through our discovery process, we formulated the thinking behind limited edition collections of watches crafted from reclaimed timbers with stories to tell.
The identified audiences were all high-end demographic with a love of the outdoors so it was clear the brand identity would be required to have a foot planted firmly in both the luxury and nature camps. An interesting combination. The name XYLO (Greek for “of wood”) sprang from these findings as it creates precisely the right tone for this sophisticated but sustainably natural line of time-pieces.
We looked into concepts which could communicate this natural, sustainable message in a different way and began to investigate the shapes and textures within woodgrain. We vectorised an example of a wood grain pattern and began to experiment with pattern-making and introducing on brand typefaces to these patterns
The breakthrough came when we began to mask the wood grain patterning with lettering, with the final brand marque effectively being carved from a hard-edged wood-grain shape background.
The X icon which sprang from this approach is truly beautiful and incredibly memorable.
